Belly Bucking with Jerry
Funny Daze,
Hitched up to Vegas from Tempe. Was frustrating stuck north of Phoenix, so hung a Donahue dye on mile marker, leaned my pack, climbed down the hill for a nap. Beep Beep Beep, Jack Straw (Pygmy's ride) was calling me up. Pygmy had recently been discharged from the Army and meeting friends from Madison in Vegas..... Damn pleasant scene too once oarked..... Won $60. in Dimes rolling a One Armed Bandit..... Walking through the Casino a pantieless gal had me focused on her skirt, so turning the corner I bounced of Jerry & Crew awaiting the elevator. Jerry won the belly buck and couldn"t offer a hand since they were full..... Back in the lot it was humming now. Ran into Pygmy & his North Eastern family. Tilted a few back and started to explore only bumping into an old Tucsonnian friend Waste Ted & his buddy Red. They were selling Glow-in-the-Dark screened shirt. Lot of smiles prepping for the show. Around intermission I truly believed N²O was being pumped into the air conditioning vent.
Sailor > Saint is my last honest memory till remembering sit in the center of the main drag eating a cheese burger.
I enjoyed myself then off to Irvine.

Take a Look at Poor Peter...
I hung out with Peter on Venice Beach before I left with others for this show.. I heard at the show the band had been told about his death and were going to "do something."
I remember Peter had a little Red haired Dog like a long haired dachshund.. He was as gentle and kind a person as you could ever have met. I remember thinking how utterly un-believable it was to be hearing he'd been killed hitching to the show.. and yea I felt a little uncomfortable wondering if I could have made a stronger connection and maybe he;d have ended up coming with us.. I rode in Curt and Little Wing's Hearse ..I think..
Glad to find this show here because I can't recall a single note of this show but it was a blast dancing in that place.

Our friend Peter
A wonderful Deadhead named Peter was killed by a drunk driver outside of Gilroy while hitchhiking to Vegas for this show. He was a beautiful spirit whose biggest love in life was the Grateful Dead and his much loved fellow heads. The band was told what had happened, and they played Black Peter in his memory at this show. Peter was from Buffalo, NY, and later at Niagara Falls they repeated their tribute for the many heads of that area who knew and loved Peter and who were devastated by his loss. Peter believed that through the Grateful Dead scene each person had the opportunity to achieve their own personal best, whether it was artistically, or in expressing one's love for one's fellow beings. It meant a lot to us that the Band showed this mark of respect and love; nobody was more deserving than our friend Peter.

Ballad of a Thin FAN
Take those smgarcia's with a grain of salt. You have a tough audience in that man. For the type-A reviewers who are constantly so miffed or unsettled because of a flub in the lyrics, etc, Good Grief!! Find another type-A band who thinks and plays just like you, and you might not be so disappointed, but quit bustin' on old Jerry and the crew. It is what it is, here in 2009. These guys were high, high, high and absolutely making it up as they went along. Can you not figure that out after 45 years---45 YEARS of listening to these guys???? The joke is on you....
I am blown away there is another Vegas show that slipped by me after all these years, much less one this good in the dark of 1984. Enjoy and thanks again, uploading Saints........

The Music Never Stopped
well, it did stop. Not a great performance at all. Bob messes up the lyrics at the end, and Jerry screws up his playing. This is not a good show, unless you like a show with a bunch of screwups. The sound isn't that good either. Get your money back and see some other dead shows.

Surprise. The playing is very dynamic and physical. China Cat..Lost Sailor feels like i'm in an opium den. Nice air decoration.'All over now' has a different treatment. Space grows legs and starts to crawl like centipedes. It's dark in that basement. Crystal chimes rain, feeling lost.Aliens Howl.A spaceship lands on the stage. and disintegrates into 'Eyes'.I like the tension between Phil and Jerry,Bobby plays his wammy bar through effect units...A jam starts in a country twang then builds to a truckin entrance. The drum kit is starting to rise, it;s getting
taller.stretching, loosing vision.Lights are shinning down on the stage like shadows. This well-oiled machine is spitting sparks,The Red,White and blue stage lights drap the stage like a melted American flag.I'm knee deep in a puddle of 'Black Peter'Bobby playing excellent slide fills.Sugar Mag struggles to get wheels,Jerry forces the issue, there we go,Sugar Mag is very great.Good quality and Pychedelic playing

Fast Eyes & Slow Bucket
Something I remember about this show is that it has one of the slowest Hell in a Buckets around to go with the Fastest Eyes in the West. Also, the China Cat/Rider Jam is one of my all time favs. I love Brent's "chimey" keys and they really are prominent at this show. I too was there. My buddy was taping and I was free to roam all over the place. It was a fun time with great crowd energy. Afterwards it was time to journey out to Irvine. It was funny running into all the big-eyed heads at the rest stops along the way.

Very nice show. I love the fast eyes. Jams are well played and hopping. Killer might as well, along with scarlett/fire. Very nice to listen too while cruising down the road. I think its true that Jerry and Bobby were having a few differences that night, but oh well.. this happens. Clean clean recording except during bertha.

Caught Speeding On the Strip
If Miami 4/7/94 was the slowest Eyes ever, this version, played exactly 10 years and a day earlier, has to be one of the fastest. Jerry was plugged in to Aladdin's Amp.
My theory about the "battle" before Truckin' is that the plan was to play Truckin' before Black Peter all along and Jerry just plum forgot. Hey it had been a good ten minutes since their break during drums, so it's easy to see how Jerry could forget. It was 84, after all.
Beware, Bertha has many mix adjustments, some crackle and a vocal flub, there are some very lengthy pauses for tuning and smoking cigarettes, and the cuts in Saint of Circumstance and Black Peter are brutal. Otherwise, great sounding high energy show, especially the nice Jerry-less jam before drums. Perfect for hiking or high impact aerobics. Put it on your ipod immediately. I did.

I was there too, we headed over from Flagstaff and camped out in what now must be downtown Henderson, overlooking the city lights. I remember looking up from the floor around the round room and seeing twirling silhouettes in all of the concourse openings. The Might As Well rocks, the show sounds great. Pretty funny seeing all of the heads spilling out onto the strip afterwards. Not like the remote Silver Bowl shows. Too bad they tore this ol' building down!

rumour mill
Well, here's how I heard it twenty years ago. Allegedly there was this head named Peter who was killed (hit by a car, I think) while hitching to the show and whose favorite song was Eyes. Supposedly this sad tale was communicated to Jerry somehow and he decided to play Eyes->Black Peter out of Space in tribute to the fallen tourhead, but apparently Bobby had other plans. True? Who knows. Apart from the novelty of Space->Eyes, I don't recall this being a particularly good or even memorable show. But the experience of seeing them play in a casino was certainly worth the trek from SF.

Bobby and Jerry Arguing?
This was a real fun show with some great jams and a nice Eyes out of space. It did seem like Bobby and Jerry were arguing musically on stage. They both decided to end Music Never Stopped at different times and after the ending was straightened out, Jerry did a great Mighty Swell. In the second set, after Eyes, Jerry started a Black Peter but Bobby argued to get his song in next so eventually, Jerry Petered out and went in Truckin' but Bobby started to segway into Wang Dang Doodle until Jerry cut him off to go back to his Peter. Otherwise, it was a great and well-played show. I was sitting in the 5th row right in front of Brent and at the time, I thought his solo in All Over Now was the best ever.
